Dirty Don Mc Coy On the Air

Dirty Don's "Woman Hating Club"

One day I got mad at my girlfriend and started talking about her on the air. I started saying crazy stuff like "I think I'll run off to Florida and hunt Alligators" and "I think I'm I'm going to give up on girls......I know, I think I'll change my name to Dirty Don and start a Woman Hating Club. If you hate them as much as I do, why don't you send me a letter a let me know why you hate them too......Maybe I'll start Dirty Don's Woman Hating Club and print up some membership cards and you can join my club."

When I got off the air that day I got a message that AL wanted to see me in his office. Al yelled at me and told me the next time I broke the format he would throw me out. A very weird thing happened. Within a week, we received a whole lot of mail addressed to "Dirty Don" wanting to join the Woman Hating Club. Al called me in and told me that he didn't get it but apparently I was on to something that was going to work.

DirtyDons_Women Hater's Club Letter

I started talking about the Woman Hating Club and reading the letters that my listeners sent in telling why they wanted to join my club and more and more letters kept arriving. It ended up being a really campy thing and I ended up with the highest ratings in the Inland Empire. I guess the stripper in "Gypsy" was right....."You gotta have a gimmick." Al moved me to afternoon drive, 3pm - 7pm.
